Call Recording Laws by State
In order to protect yourself, it can be a good idea if you record any phone calls from a debt collector so there is documented proof of the conversation. However, there are certain states that have laws that may prevent you from recording a conversation unless all parties involved have consented to the recording of the phone call. This would mean that you would need to inform the debt collector that the call will be recorded prior to recording the conversation. Some states do not have this requirement.
